Red chestnut gloss test 9" Zilla and matte black

9" Amir Rose grey (this is a very dark one)

9" Zilla dark rose grey

This is a very special horse to me. It is one of 3 made for the salespeople of Hagen-Renaker. I was given this piece by George Lamson, my sales rep for H-R in the mid-80's. I had sold more H-R's than any other dealer (including Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland!) during the San Marcos era, and as a "museum warming" party when I opened our first museum at our Shadow Hills ranch, he presented it to me then. Her rich coloring is partly due to the red claybase used. Even tho George is no longer with us in person, his legacy does live on.

CLoseup of the test piece 9" Zara, shown by us as "Rare Gift"

These are San Marcos era "goof color" 9" Zaras. They are chestnut in color. This happened quite often... when pouring things in colored slip, bisque firings turned these pieces white...just like the regular whites from a white grey run. The colored slip was actually the slip run for the palominos. Once fired, the yellow claybase and the white grey clay are nearly alike. These colored slip pieces were finished as a grey, with grey mane/tail and shadings. Once glazed, the colored slip color shows up... and turns the pieces yellow. I have these 2 Zaras in glossy and matte finish, but also have other pieces with similar type goofs.

Two white "Abdullah" Arabians.

"Abdullah" chestnut.

"Abu Farwa" in test color chestnut (Monrovia)

Closeup of Abu Farwa head..shown as "Viva La Vida".

Regular color Abu Farwas...Monrovia on left, San Dimas on right.

"Ferseyn" in rare doeskin, Monrovia white, and San Dimas white.

Monrovia white grey Sheba, Sherif and Ferseyn.

Sherif in San Dimas white, rare doeskin, and Monrovia white.

Rare ash grey Ferseyn. I got this piece from the collection of Ellen Hitchens, CA who is no longer with us...I bought her collection after the 1980's earthquake, and she was afraid of losing pieces. Almost all of her H-R's were one's I didn't have, so her collection has added greatly to my own and it is a nice tribute to think that several people's collection live on and are able to be enjoyed by visitors here. I found his old photo show pictures, and so am keeping the name Ellen gave him and showed him under, Ser-Antef.

Rearing Fez in white and grey (looks like a liver chestnut, but listed as chestnut), and black second version Fez (test?).

Turning Arab in chestnut and white.
